Ukraine: Standing with the Local Communities in Crisis
BREADtrust has been on the ground in Ukraine since 1997. Today, as the conflict reaches its most critical point, we are empowering local churches to provide "last-mile" aid that the world’s largest agencies often cannot reach.

A Crisis More Serious Than Ever
The war that began in the East in 2014 escalated into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe in 2022. Today, the need is more urgent than ever. Our partner churches—the "world-wide family of God"—are facing the double-edged sword of rising costs and constant danger.
"God is at work building His Kingdom in even the darkest of situations."
Economic Devastation
Wages are low, pensions are cut, and basic food supplies are at record high prices.
Displacement
Millions have fled the East, with many now planting "Refugee Churches" in safer regions to care for their fellow displaced citizens.

Our Lead Partners
Igor and Tanya are the team leaders of our partner churches. Although the team face significant challenges there is good news. The church leaders that we work with have taken bold decisions and personal risks to keep themselves involved with their local communities and help the poor in whatever ways they can. BREADtrust as a charity support them with financial aid to enable them to do this more effectively.

Empowering the Local Church
We don’t just send resources; we sustain the people who are best positioned to help.
Strategic Partnerships
We work through trusted leaders like
Igor and Tanya, who have taken bold personal risks to remain with their communities.
The “Fresh ways to serve” Initiative
In response to the 2022 escalation, we have developed new mobile distribution networks to reach cut-off "grey zone" villages and provide winter-specific aid (heating fuel and thermal bedding).
The Refugee-to-Refugee Model
Supporting internally displaced pastors who are now starting new community centres in Central and Western Ukraine to provide trauma support and hygiene supplies.

War Response: Impact on the Ground

- Soup Kitchens: Providing a warm meal and a moment of community for those who have lost everything.
- Internal Housing: Managing in-country accommodation for families who have been uprooted by the 2022 invasion.
